    What is RSS?
    RSS (or "Really Simple Syndication") is a way to share and receive information using XML (Extensible Markup Language).RSS allows you to monitor Web sites, blogs, and databases for new information, without having to visit the site, blog, or database. The library's RSS feeds allow you to find out what new books, large print books, videos's and sound recordings have been added to our collection without having to visit the library or our website! Receive daily RSS feeds for new items!

    What is an RSS reader?
    An RSS reader (also called an aggregator) is a software application that allows you to read blogs and Web sites that publish RSS feeds. There are a number of RSS readers available for free on the Web, check this site for a comprehensive list. If you are looking for a free, Web-based reader that does not require a download, we recommend Bloglines, a web based RSS reader.

    How can I use the library's RSS feeds?
    Our RSS Feeds can be found in the Polaris card catalog. In order to subscribe to an RSS feed, simply right-click on the feed URL button button for the feed you would like to subscribe to, select "Copy Shortcut" (or "Copy Link Location"), and paste the URL of the feed into your RSS reader.

    There are a many major organizations and publishers that offer RSS feeds with more being added daily. Here are a select few:

    • NPR: feeds from National Public Radio - News, Programs, and topics (books, music, etc.)
    • New York Times: feeds for different content areas of the paper
    • ESPN: sports feeds from ESPN - headlines for your favorite sport
    • ITUNES - Top 25 songs of the day
    • Dilbert - cartoon
    • Quotes of the day - four humorous quotations each day from The Quotations Page
    • To locate more feeds, use an RSS search engine like Bloglines. , Feedster, or Yahoo! (select "RSS/XML" in "File Format").
